Frequently asked questions

The Renovation Toolkit is a set of checklists, trackers, planners and templates that follow a residential renovation from planning to completion. It includes a budget and procurement tracker, a project timeline, a fixtures and fittings schedule, trade vetting and quote review checklists, a permit checklist, site set-up and rough-in walkthroughs, a variation requests tracker, defect tracking, Occupation Certificate compliance, trade email templates, and the Vault for storing warranties and certificates.

The tools are grouped into six phases: plan and budget, trades and materials, approvals, on site, completion, and anytime resources. You can work through them in order alongside the Renovation Guide, or jump straight to the tool you need.

You can browse the toolkit overview for free. Using the tools requires a Renovation Roadmap subscription at $299 AUD per year, which also includes the nine-chapter Renovation Guide, seventeen trade email templates, and bonus content.

The toolkit is written for Australian renovations across all states and territories. Some content uses NSW terminology (for example CDC and Construction Certificate), and approval rules, thresholds, and timeframes differ by state. Always confirm the requirements for your location with your local council or state authority.
Important notice: This content provides general guidance only and does not constitute legal, financial, structural, or building advice. Requirements, regulations, approval processes, and building standards vary significantly between Australian states and territories and change over time. Verify all requirements with your state authority and engage licensed professionals for all certified works.
